A Bit of Philosophy
The
philosophical basis for "Interior Architecture" is the old axiom
that "form follows function". However, our interpretation of
function refers to the meeting of human needs. How we move through space, interact, communicate,
work, play and separate ourselves for rest and privacy are
thoroughly considered. At CjDesignNYC, we celebrate the creative richness and
unique vision of modern design as well as the vast history of
art and culture. We value the human need for intellectual diversion and our
appreciation of beauty as an end in itself. We acknowledge our desire for complexity and visual stimulation but also for
places that give us a sense of peace amidst the constant motion
of our world. |

A Bit of
Process
As founder and
principle designer, Cj Jadlocki's first priority with a new
client is to develop strong lines of communication. It is
essential for her to understand the needs of any residential or
commercial client. She focuses on how the space must function
for the individuals it serves and assesses the advantages and
deficits of the existing or proposed space. A plan is then
devised which establishes areas of function, interaction,
communication and privacy. Since furnishings are integral to the
function of any space, the plan depicts a fully furnished
environment. We call this a "living plan". Decisions about
architectural structure and materials are made to achieve the
desired plan. Architectural details are created to reveal,
accentuate or hide particular elements of the structure. At all
times, individual needs are at the center of "living plan"
development.
Special pieces of
particular beauty or interest which may include art, antiques,
carpets or unique pieces of furniture are then chosen to become
focal points, set a tone, create a distinct style and increase
the visual energy. A palette of materials is developed to
highlight these pieces. Finally, other furniture is selected to
enhance the established style. The results of this rational
humanistic approach are stylistically diverse interiors that are
both functional and unique.

A Bit of
Biography
CJ is energized by a
passion for color and a creative, playful spirit. Extensive
travels throughout Europe and Asia and a lifelong study of art
history instill her projects with inspiration from the creative
arts of many cultures. Her life as a fine artist and an ongoing
involvement in the contemporary art world bring a modern edge to
her designs.
After formal studies
in fine art, CJ started her career in Chicago teaching painting
and drawing. During this period she exhibited her paintings
throughout the Midwest. When she left teaching in the mid 70's,
she found part time work in various areas of the interior design
field. She worked as a picture framer, sold home furnishings,
and designed custom drapery and upholstery.
After a move to New
York City in 1981, she began to take these sidelines more
seriously. This led her to a position designing architecturally
based custom cabinetry and seating for a small company called
Furnitecture. Her clients were a combination of individual
homeowners and other interior designers. In the "to the trade"
portion of the business, she perfected her skills as a chameleon
designer, able to execute the diverse styles of various design
firms. CjDesignNYC was founded in 1994 in order to further
develop her own unique approach through all aspects of
architectural and interior design. In 2004, Cj’s blend of art,
artifact and architecture continues to evolve and create rich
and exciting projects. |
